We’re in beta

Same mission, new door

Last year I wrote “And we’re off!” and admitted we liked half our product. The other half — coaxing real people past that dreaded empty video recorder — still needed work.

Twelve months and a few hundred Bit-by-Bits later, Equator.app is in beta. A vision is worth nothing until someone else can see it — so here’s what we assembled.

The real news isn’t the beta. It’s who we built it for.

We set out to build a consumer destination, where anyone could drop in and disagree civilly on camera. We still have one. But along the way a simpler idea surfaced. Publishers, podcasters, newsletter writers, creators, inflencers, brands, communities: they already have the audiences and the questions. What they lack is a room where those people can hear each other think.

So we’re giving them one. Partners bring the crowd and the question; Equator supplies the table. We haven’t abandoned the individual visitor — we’ve found a better way to fill the chairs.

Here’s how it works. A partner asks one question at equator.app/their-name — says it on air or drops it in the newsletter. Their audience answers on camera, side by side, in a co-branded roundtable with the partner’s name on the door. Equator automatically cuts a trailer of the answers, ready to post back on the channels they already use.

The partner gets fresh, original video programming made by their own followers — with hardly any production work. Likes may tell you how many, but a room helps you understand why.

Try getting that from a poll or a comment thread. People are kinder to a face than to a username.

We also redesigned the site and the app: simpler, friendlier, fewer clicks. Watch → Think → Speak. Joining is easier, especially for the camera-shy. And with every voice auto-subtitled in your language, the table stretches across borders. Different languages, one conversation.

What hasn’t changed is the mission: better online discussion, minus the shouting. Real, ID-verified humans — no bots, no AI opinions, ever. Disagreement is welcome; consensus isn’t required. And listening counts as much as speaking.

Beta means learning, not declaring victory. First partners, first rooms, and the same stubborn problem as last October: getting people past camera shyness. Quality before quantity.

Browse the beta. Watch a discussion, record an opinion, suggest a question. Have an audience of your own? Let’s put your name on a door. And please give us feedback — we’re listening: contact@equator.app.
