Guidelines
How we treat each other here.
Equator.app is a roundtable, not a feed. Real people, on camera, discussing one question from any side. That only works if we treat each other like people. So, a few house rules — written for humans, not lawyers.
1. Remember there’s a face.
Every voice here belongs to a real person, with a face and an @handle attached. People are kinder to a human than to a username. Be the person you’d be across a kitchen table.
2. Listen first.
Watch the other voices before you add yours. It changes what you say. You’ll find out where you stand — and sometimes that it isn’t where you thought.
3. Disagree. Please.
This isn’t a place for everyone to agree. It’s a place for disagreement worth watching: specific, civil, occasionally mind-changing. Adversaries, not enemies. A game of catch, not a tennis match. Nobody is keeping score, because the point isn’t to win. People don’t always need to win the argument. They want to hear the other side — and to know the other side heard them.
4. Argue the point, not the person.
Say why you think what you think. Skip the name-calling, the motive-guessing, the “people like you always…” If you can’t make your case without insulting someone, it isn’t a case yet.
5. Don’t rush to the middle.
The truth isn’t always halfway between two sides. Sometimes both sides are right — about different dangers, at the same time. That’s what turns an ordinary dispute into a trap. You don’t have to resolve the paradox. You do have to see it.
6. Speak softly, and say something.
It’s not enough to stop shouting. We also have to learn what to say when we speak softly. Make your point, in a tone you’d use with someone you’ll see again.
7. The ±10% rule.
Be 10% less offensive — and 10% harder to offend. That’s the whole philosophy.
What we remove
Hate, harassment, threats, or exposing anyone’s private information. Fakes of any kind: bots, deepfakes, AI personas, filters that hide who you are. Spam, scams, sexually explicit content, and anything that isn’t yours to post. You can report problematic content, and our moderators will try to review voices and remove what breaks these rules.
The boring part
Our Terms of Use cover rights, privacy, and the law. You keep the rights to what you post; we get a license to show it. You can ask us to delete your data and content at any time. Questions: contact@equator.app.
If this sounds like your kind of place, pull up a chair.
Come curious. Leave clearer.
