How to Use

Welcome to Equator.app

Equator.app is a grassroots initiative designed to help prevent polarization through respectful, civilized discussion. We are a platform for open-minded individuals to connect, express honest opinions, and listen in a pragmatic way. By participating, you agree to help us maintain this rational space.

1. Talk, Don’t Shout

The core rule is connection, not combat. Adversaries — not enemies.

  • Be civil. Don’t post anything that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or hate speech.
  • Keep it clean. Don’t post anything obscene or sexually explicit.
  • Respectful Tone: We support free speech but avoid vitriol, yelling, sarcasm, and vulgarity.
  • Maintain Nuance: We value the nuance of face-to-face connection.
  • Lower the Temperature: Our goal is to harness healthy arguments to reduce hostility and lower your blood pressure.
  • Respect each other. Don’t harass, bully, or intimidate anyone, impersonate people, or expose their private information.
  • Respect our forum. Don’t post spam or otherwise vandalize the forum.

2. No Fake Videos (Authenticity First)

Equator is built on real human interaction to avoid the “gladiatorial arena” of typical social media.

  • No Bots or AI-Generated Media: We use human video opinions specifically to avoid bots. We do not allow “fake videos,” including deepfakes, AI-generated personas, or manipulated media intended to mislead the community.
  • Real Identity: Deceptive filters that mask your identity or impersonation of others are strictly prohibited.
  • Honest Expression: We value authentic expression and active listening to gain perspective.
  • Permission: You may not post anything digital that belongs to someone else without permission.

3. The Disagreement Hierarchy

We use a rational discussion hierarchy to ensure high-quality debate.

  • Valued Arguments: We prioritize logical refutation and addressing the central point of a discussion.
  • Prohibited Attacks: Name-calling (e.g., “you ignorant crybaby”), knee-jerk contradiction, personal and ad hominem attacks (character, motives, background, or other personal traits), and straw-man arguments can be unceremoniously blocked from discussions.

4. Prohibited Conduct

To keep Equator safe and productive, the following content is banned:

  • Discrimination: Mean-spirited or discriminatory content regarding race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or ethnic origin.
  • Spam & Scams: Machine-generated content, unauthorized advertising, or fraudulent features.
  • Malware: Any content designed to disrupt or damage software, hardware, or telecommunications equipment.
  • Harassment: Intimidation, groupthink, and the threat of social exclusion are not tolerated.

5. Moderation and Your Content

  • Community Review: Our community of moderators reviews opinions to ensure they meet these standards.
  • Right to Remove: The Company reserves the right to remove any content that violates these guidelines or our Terms of Use.
  • Content Ownership: You retain the rights to the content you post, but you grant Equator a license to display and distribute it through the Service.
  • Data Deletion: You have the right to request the deletion of your data and content at any time via our Data Deletion page.

6. Terms of Service

Yes, legalese is boring, but we must protect ourselves – and by extension, you and your data – against unfriendly folks. We have a Terms of Use describing your (and our) behavior and rights related to content, privacy, and laws. To use this service, you must agree to abide by our TOS.

7. Welcome

Equator is not about convincing everyone; it is about authentic expression and active listening. If you value respectful conversation, welcome to Equator.app. Otherwise, go away.
